Ephrem’s Story

Ephrem in New Clothes

Ephrem was a 13-year-old street child who cannot remember where he’s from. Years ago Ephrem’s parents, most likely in poverty driven desperation, sent him to Addis Ababa for work. They were likely told that Ephrem would be able to also attend school and create a better future for himself. Unfortunately, this common story told to destitute parents in rural communities throughout Ethiopia is almost always a lie. In reality their children, like Ephrem, arrive in Addis Ababa only to work in sweatshops for the tyrants that misled their families. Like many of these children, Ephrem escaped from his captor only to be trapped to a life on the streets. He was so young when he left home that he no longer remembers where exactly he is from. Ephrem’s story is similar to that of many other street children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ephrem and Mitu enjoy Drop-In
Center Tire Swing

Today Ephrem is fortunate to have found The Forsaken Children’s Christ-centered project, Children’s Home Ethiopia (CHE). He attended the Drop-In Center for fulltime street children run by CHE and is now living with in a foster family. Ephrem is doing amazingly well for a child who has faced so many tragedies in his short life. Ephrem began grade 1 in September, 2008. Please pray for Ephrem and the countless others like him.

Ephrem may have avoided his tragic story if a project like Kota Ganate had existed in his family’s community.
